A fortnightly pool club in London.
AMES
The format, in one breath
Come paired or come solo.
One shot each.
Miss and you're back to the queue.
The strongest pairs make the knockout.
The night moves in three acts
19:00
The room opens
Doors, drinks, pairing of solo players. The table runs casually. The host works the room.
19:45
The rotation
One shot each, partners alternating. Miss or foul and the pair goes to the back of the queue. The next pair plays it where it lies. Every scoring visit is a point, a rack win is five.
21:30
The room closes in
The top eight point scorers enter the knockout. Quarter-finals one frame, semi-finals one frame, the final best of three. Ends 23:00.
The room
One table. One room. One pair holding it.
Clean play and good people. Recurring faces, music, one stage the whole room watches, a host who keeps the call order impossible to miss, and a proper ending everyone stays for.
Good players. Good people. One room.
Come for a frame. Stay for the room.
The game
AMES Pool
One table. One red eight. A run of frames, each one a composed pool problem, played in visits of two shots. The score is the streak.
